I just signed up for an online backup plan with CrashPlan, something I've been meaning to do for a while. They are offering three years for the price of two this weekend, which finally tipped me over the edge. Only $150 for unlimited backup for all my computers, which is a great deal. Other similar offerings include Mozy and Carbonite, but I've read stories about people having issues with their "unlimited" backup not really being unlimited. I need at least a terabyte of backup for all my photos and videos, and I did quite a bit of research a while back on the various options and was most comfortable with CrashPlan. The other thing I really like with CrashPlan is that they will send you a 1TB hard drive (for a fee) that you can use to "seed" your backup – otherwise the initial backup is likely to take months with the amount of data that I have. I'll report back on how it goes!
I have been using Mozy for several years now with no complaints but ave got nowhere near to 1TBCheerssteven
I’ve been looking to do something like this for the past couple of months (ever since my TimeCapsule suddenly died and I found out that Americans can have Apple get the data off it but no such luck for those of us north of 49 degrees). Do let us know how it goes. I too would need about that amount of space…and if the drive sending thing isn’t for Canadians I could always carry it across the border I guess…
Hi Dale, I’ll certainly report back. And if you need a south of the border address for drive shipping etc let me know 🙂 !
Looks like I will need to switch from Mozy today. I have 424 GB of data. Mozy has changed their plan to now charge 9.99/month for 125 GB and then $2 per month for each additional 20 GB. So I need to now pay $9.99 + (15 x $2) or about $40 per month. For $150 Crashplan sounds like the deal. Goodbye Mozy…
With 130 GB backed up on Mozy I just got their new pricing goes up from just over $100 for 2 years unlimited to just over $250 limited to about 130 GB.That’s me offsteven
I continue to be impressed with @Crashplan – have well over 1TB backed up with them. I have the family unlimited plan, and bought that at a special promotion price of $150 for three years. It's now $119 per year but I think that's a great deal still for unlimited backup from up to 10 machines. I also paid for them to send a terabyte disk to seed my backup, which worked really well.

I don't know anyone who has done a large scale restore from CrashPlan. I have browsed my backed up files online and downloaded a few files for testing, which all worked fine.
